Res Grd
Slade Pt 15 def Kuttabul 7

Mixed results on the weekend with Reggies going down to Slade Point and the A Grade getting up over Bowen. Although Sladies fielded a few of their regular first graders, our boys had an off night and were beaten 3 tries to 1. Best for Kuttabul was Barry, constantly carved up out wide, running good hard lines. We have got Cities in the last comp match and it will be another Friday night game.

A Grade bounced back to post a good 26-8 win against Bowen. The Mudcrabs were coming off some pretty good results with a narrow loss to the Raiders, a 60 point win against Brothers and a bye courtesy of Slade Points struggle to get blokes to travel. The Bok's laid on some good tries with Neamey bagging a double on the left side and Logan Fro and Dan Ireland getting a try each. Beckesy proved that practice does pay off and slotted 3 from 4 wide out with a 15-20 knot wind to contend with.

The win also secures the minor premiership for A Grade. After 7 lean seasons, the club is starting to fill the trophy cabinet with Reserve Grade having secured their minor premiers trophy a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks to Wrighty, Barry and Warney for sitting the bench and also thanks to Colesy, Kettles and Bruce for their help running the line and water.

KUTTABUL 14 lost Slade Point 18

After seemingly having to only turn up to win matches, the Camelboks were given a timely reminder that competition isn't a one horse race. In a top of the table clash, Slade Point were able to prove that winning three premierships in a row doesn't happen by accident and were able to stamp themselves as contenders in 2008.

In a see-sawing match, the lead changed hands 5 times with neither side able to dominate the other. The Kuttabul front row of Scotty, Penni and Blaster were once again solid in the set pieces and mobile in the loose play. Unfortunately, the Camelboks weren't able to capitalise on numerous opportunities and eventually ran out of time trying to wrestle the lead back from the two blues.

Best for the Boks was Simsy, who had a busy game at open side flanker and Nigel Neame, who turned in a 5 star performance at the back. Vagana was underneath every kick and continually brought the ball back with interest.

Get your seats early for the rematch.

KUTTABUL 67 def BROTHERS 6

The Kuttabul Camelboks were back at Quarry Hill for their match against Brothers after a successful two match road. The match was marred by the red carding of two Kuttabul players (Simon McVeigh for stomping and Kyle Coulter for a head butt). In a one-sided match, Kuttabul were still able to run tries in at will, despite playing much of the match two forwards short. The outside backs had a field day with Benno running in three tries, Usaia and Vagana bagging a double each and Neily picking up a try.

Kuttabul 38 def Raiders 10

The Kuttabul Camelboks travelled to Airlie Beach for a much anticipated clash with the Raiders. The Whitsunday team were coming off a good win against last year's premiers, Slade Point. The match saw Kuttabul's northern hemisphere players together for the first time in the starting fifteen. Other notable selections were Glen Anderson playing his first match at loose-head prop and the return of Mitchell Coles from an ankle injury onto the bench for his first appearance in 2008. The Camelboks were taking the field without 3 of its best from the previous week with Damian Royan, Ben Michelmore and Simon McVeigh unavailable.

The match started in typical MDRU fashion with the mandatory 20 penalties in the first 10 minutes and a stint in the bin for Welsh flanker Lee Sims. Kuttabul were able to adjust and a nice second man pass from Danny Webb to Nigel Neame saw the Boks out to a 7 point lead in the 15th minute. The match didn't reach any great heights for the next 20 minutes with Kuttabul's indiscipline costing the team momentum. Peni Naqa and Lee Sims were able to add some gloss to the first half with a couple of late tries. Peni was having a day out with some slashing runs and one in particular saw him field a missed penalty shot deep behind his try line. Not happy to take the conservative option, Peni ran the ball at a staggered Raiders defensive line, brushing away tacklers until he was ankle-tapped inside the opposition half. The 17-0 halftime lead belied the lack of discipline and composure the Camelboks displayed and there was a commitment by the team at the break to address these issues.

Ten minutes after the break pressure by the Kuttabul defensive line saw the Raiders push a loose pass that was toed through by Usaia. Good players seem to make their own luck and while at full sprint, the ball bounced perfectly into his arms for an untouched 40m run to the line. The Raiders were then able to sustain pressure on the Camelboks and exploited the short side to open their account. Kuttabul hit straight back, once again applying defensive pressure to the Whitsunday backline and Mitch Brown was able to scoop up an errant pass to run the ball in under the posts. Five minutes latter and for the third time in the half, Kuttabul forced another loose pass from the Raiders backline and this time it was Mitchell Coles showing a clean pair off heels to race in under the posts. Whitsunday were able to capitalise on a Cassidy Holland break to score a late try.

Kuttabul 33 def Bowen 7

Kuttabul travelled to Bowen on Saturday for a top of the table clash with the Mudcrabs. The Camelboks were able to convert their early field position into points with a try to Walker in the 6th minute. Garry Bartlett delivered a no-look pass to send Walker clear on the left side. Simsy converted to have the Camelboks out to an early 7-0 lead. After sustained Kuttabul pressure, Sims was on hand in the 23rd minute to dive on a ball in the oppositions in-goal. Converting his own try, Lee stretched Kuttabuls lead to 14-0. Close to half time the crowd were rewarded with a brilliant individual try to Ben Michelmore. Deep inside his own 22m, Michelmore fielded a loose pass from his toes, broke the first line of defence and then continued to brush away numerous opponents before dotting the ball down close to the posts. Simsy converted for a for a 21-0 half-time lead.

Bowen were able to regroup after half-time and scored 15 minutes after the break. Kuttabul immediately hit back with another Michelmore try after a Danny Webb chip kick was charged down and richocheted into Beno's hands. With 10 minutes left on the clock McVeigh combined with Usaia to once again crack Bowens midfield. There was a quick recycle to the backline which showed great skill in shifting the ball rapidly from sideline to sideline allowing Nigel Neame to beat the cover and score in the corner. This closed the scoring at 33-7. Best for Kuttabul were centres Usaia Tawakeuau and Ben Michelmore with the man of the match going to ex-Illawarra flanker Simon McVeigh. McVeigh stamped his quality on the match with a dominate performance, continually turning over opposition's ball in defence and breaking the line in offence.

Kuttabul were dominant in the set pieces winning all their own ball and much of Bowens. If not for several handling errors, the score could have well and truely blown out.
