History of the Kuttabul Camelboks
The Lore of the Camelbok

The Camelbok (Camelus Marsupialus) is the iconic official mascot of the Kuttabul Rugby Union Football Club.

The Camelbok is a magical creature, the product of one of natures great feats, the inter-breeding of the Camel and the Springbok. Nobody knows when or how this ever happened and to this day the Camelbok can only be found in one location in the world. The Camelbok lives on the slopes and upper-lowlands of the Mt Blackwood National Park, near Kuttabul some 40 kilometers northwest of Mackay, Queensland.

Camelus Dromedarius

Antidorcas MarsupialusThe Camelbok is a shy, elusive and skiddish animal. It has excellent vision, hearing and sense of smell. Nature's unique feat of inter-breeding produced an animal with the strength, endurance, stamina, surefootedness, thirst and manners of a Camel, with the speed and agility of a Springbok. The Camelbok is equally at home in dense bush or barren open country.

It is the the focus of Kuttabul rugby players to develop the attributes of the Camelbok within themselves.

Sitings of the elusive Camelbok are rare, the image that follows is copy of a watercolor produced by a local Kuttabul identity. The original watercolor was created from descriptions given by Kuttabul locals of Camelboks sited in the Kuttabul area over a 40 year period in the early 1900s.
