Kuttabuls run ends

05/09/10

Brothers ended the Camelboks unbeaten streak with a hard fought 11-10 win on Saturday. The Lions Park upset was Kuttabul’s first lose since 2008.

The Brothers forward pack were dominant and their backline defended stoutly. Although the  Camelboks were able to score two tries to one, it was the boot of the Brothers fullback that managed to steer them home.

Kuttabul's fortunes weren't helped by a raft of injuries, suspensions and unavailble players. This extended to match day with the late withdrawl of in-form prop Jimmy Manallack. To compound problems, the Welsh pairing of Garry Horrigan and Stu Edbrooke were injured early in the match. Garry Bartlett was probably not the replacement the coaching staff had in mind for the dynamic Welsh flanker, but he was able to man-up when his club needed him.

When the Kuttabul forwards were able find parity with their opponents, the boks were able to make inroads into the Brothers line. Anthony Coulten scored a well constructed try in his debut match and Pete Michelmore served up a trade-mark 70m effort down the right wing. Pete's 73 minute try put the Boks in front for the first time and it looked like he may have snatched an unlikely win. It took a 52m penalty kick to sink Kuttabul close to full time.

Tries for Kuttabul: Anthony Coulten, Pete Michelmore.

Conversions: Mitch Coles 0/3

Brothers: 1 try and 2 penalties.
