BrahmanBoks win Geeko Cup

06/09/10

The Kuttabul contingent of Barry Bourne, Usaia Tawakevou, Mitch Brown and Louis Kern performed well in their debut for the BrahmanBoks. Struggling with the conditions on day one, the team were relegated to the minor competition after losing three of their pool matches by 5 points or less. A directive by the coaching staff to go out on the town of Saturday night appeared to have backfired when a number of the squad were struck down with a violent illness prior to kick-off. The knockoput prelim final saw the lead change hands on a number of occasions, before the team dug deep and scored after the final whistle and advance to the final of the Geeko Cup. Kern and Tawakevou were outstanding in the final, with Louis scoring a brace before gifting Usaia with a try on full time. This prompted a string of phone calls from relatives, as the match had been broadcast live into Fiji. Usaia was lucky to make the field, after a narrow escape when feeding a chicken to a 4.5m crocodile on the Thursday before the tournament.
