Camelboks Win Minor Premierships

14/08/12

The Camelboks wrapped up the minor premiership in both grades with a 15-15 draw in 2nd Grade and a 35-5 win in 1st Grade.

The 2nd Grade were able to out-score their City counterparts, but once again poor conversions allowed City to grab a draw. Jamie Nash, Johnny Sadlier and Lee Pula crossed for the Camelboks, while City got their points from 2 tries plus a conversion and a penalty goal. The Kuttabul blokes will play Slade Point in the Major Semi on Saturday, with the winner going through the the GF.

The 1st Grade continued on with their undefeated season after a 35-5 win against 3rd placed City. The match wasn't the best from a spectators point of view with countless penalties blown and the match stopped on 22 occassions for Mackay City players to recieve medical attention. The magic sponge seemed to work on each and every time, which added weight to the theory that this was a preconceived stalling tactic.

The few times that rugby was allowed to flow, Kuttabul had the best of the running. With a dominant scrum and lineout, the forwards were able to cross for 5 tries through Mathew Jeffries, Rich Murphy, Rhys Hitchcock, Johnny Pula and Mike Entwistle. Buddha Gordon and Marc Walker were able to convert all tries in a great display of kicking.

The backs were rarely used and they will look forward to a more running-rugby friendly time slot of 4pm next week when Kuttabul take on Whitsunday in the Major Semi.
