First XV 09/10 Neutral to Slade Point, 08/05/10

Kuttabul ran with a decent southerly behind their backs in the first half and set about building a lead soon after the kickoff. In what was always going to shape up as a formidable pairing, Usaia Tawakevou and Misivili Apu'ula combined for the first try of the day. From a set scrum, Usaia drifted across the Slade Point defenders before straightening through the smallest of gaps. With electric feet, Tawakevou stepped around three covering defenders before offloading to Apu'ula who scored untouched next to the posts. Marc Walker ensured maximum points and Kuttabul went to a 7-0 after 5 minutes.

The next 15 minutes were an arm wrestle with Slade point gaining the upper hand on the back of a mounting penalty count against the Boks. Kuttabul were turning over plenty of ball at the breakdown as the Two Blues targeted the ruck area. With Kuttabul conceeding 4 consecutive penalties, Slade Point's large lock crashed over. The missed kick saw the score after 30 minutes at 7-5.

Kuttabul hit straight back with the forwards laying a good platform and advancing the ball into Slade Points 22m. The tight forwards were creating momentum with props Oscar Manu and Jimmy Manallack finding metres on the edge of the ruck. Once again a set piece scrum saw Usaia and Misivili combine again with Tawakevou turning the ball back inside for Misivili to race 20m and score under the sticks. Marc Walker continues to strike the ball well and pushes the lead to 14-5 at oranges.

The second half contined to see the ref blow penalty after penalty against the Boks and once again on the back of 4 consecutive penalties, Slade Point crashed over from short range again. 14-10

Oscar Manu and Ben Hockey continued to bend the defensive line back and Kuttabul looked good in periods. Turnovers and penalties kept Slade Point in the match until Misivili was able to shift a turnover ball 30m to an unmarked Mitchell Coles who sprinted 50m to score in the corner. The unsuccessful conversion saw the score at 19-10

Slade Point continued to kick the ball to Kuttabul, who continued to run it back into their quarter. Even with a huge wind at their back, the Two Blues found themselves trapped in their 22m and the Boks were able to strike once again through Usaia Tawakevou. In another brilliant display of his sublime running skills, Usaia waltz through a gap that only he could see, stepped a further 3 defenders and scored untouched next to the posts. 24-0

The flood gates opened and on the back of Usaia's try, Kuttabul scoring another two within a few minutes. With speed through the backline, the Bok's continued their trend for scoring long range tries when Misivili Apu'ula combined with Mitchell Coles. Mitchell found himself in space again after being on the end of a bullet-like 30m pass. Coles sprinted clear before drawing the last defenders and throwing an equally brilliant pass back inside to a flying Apu'ula who raced in his third try. 31-10

The last try was almost against the run of play as Slade Point piggy-backed down into Kuttabul's territory after being the beneficiary of a few more penalties (21-2 count against the Bok's). Slade Point hard on attack, received a 22m drop-kick restart from Glenn Anderson. Spotting and opportunity against a tiring Slade Point outfit, he had the vision to kick short and wide to a flying Mitchell Coles. Taking the ball one hand one bounce, Coles evaded the chaser and sprinted 70m to score. Marc Walker converted to finish the scoring at 38-10.

Best for the Bok's were props Jimmy Manallack and Oscar Manu, lock Ben Hockey and the 10/12 pairing of Usaia Tawakevou and Misivili Apu'ula.
