First XV 09/10 Neutral to Brothers, 24/04/09

The final was played against a resurgent Brothers outfit. Once again the Camelboks started strongly with prodigiously talented Maori backrower Logan Gardiner scoring in the opening minutes. The Kuttabul outfit made their intentions clear from the restart when Ratu Delanimate held up a beautiful pass to send Benny on a long run down the touch line. With one man to beat, Benny placed a perfect centre-field kick into the arms of Nigel Neame who was supporting down the middle channel. Again the conversion was unsuccessful and the score remained 10-0.

Ratu was in the action again when he once more bust the Brothers line after good lead up work from Louis Kern. Nigel Neame was on the end of the movement, chipping the ball over the last line of defense. In a remarkable effort, despite being shoved into row three of the crowd, Nigel was still able to win the chase to the ball to score back to back tries.

Brothers were able to claw one back when pushing the camelboks off a scrum close to their line. The half time score of 15-5 gave the Bretheren some hope but that ended soon after the referees whistle for the start of the second half. From the kick off, Kuttabul were able to force a turnover with Neil Willis quickly shifting the ball wide to the Ratu Delanimate. Confirming that he is quick for a big man, Ratu took on the Brothers outside backs and beat them to the try line.

20-5 soon became 25-5 with the try of the night. In an all Fijian effort, Ratu, Oscar and Usaia weaved through the Brothers team, linking and off loading in an interchange that took the ball from end to end. Usaia capped a great match with a try from a turnover to finish the scoring at 30-5.
