First XV 09/10 Home to Whitsunday, 13/06/09

Kuttabul came into the match with scratchy form with a narrow away win and a bye. Wanting to maintain their undefeated start to the season, the Camelboks got off to a flyer when Mitch Brown came back down the short side with Usaia Tawakeuau on the second phase of the the match. Strong running from Brown and the elusive feet of Tawakeuau had the Boks on the board in the first 30 seconds.

Minutes later boom outside back Ratu Delimante fielded a kick inches from touch, beat the initial and set off down the side line for a 60m run. The ever-present Tawakeuau backed up on the inside and a interchange of passes saw Usaia generously feed the ball back to Ratu who raced in under the posts.

The Raiders regrouped and the structure deserted the Camelboks. Ill disipline contributed to a one sided penalty count and it took a break from replacement winger Joseph Hughes to get the score board moving again. Hughes deftly chipped over the second line of defence and the ball was regathered by Louis Kern, who off loaded to Hugo Ross to score his first of the day. The conversion pushed the lead to 17-0

Seconds before full time Kuttabul's scrum dominace paid off when they were awared a penalty close to the line. Louis Kern took the quick tap and proved unstoppable from close range. Kern has been a revelation for the Camelboks and has scorched to 9 tries in 5 games.

Mike Entwistle entered the game at half time and had an immediate impact. The Ireland U20 rep burst over close to the post to give the Boks the best possible start to the second half. Playing at number 8, Mike offered a mix of  damaging runs and hard on the ball work.

The tries continued 5 minutes latter when sustained pressure and multiple phase saw the Boks march the ball up the field. Good patience and control was rewarded when Oscar Manu was on the receiving end of a break to extend Kuttabuls lead to 36-0. Not since NPC rep Bill Rurinui played for the Boks in 1999 has a prop scored so many tries.

From the restart the Camelboks broke out again with Mike Entwistle, appreciating the fast and dry pitch, beating the Raiders up the middle and offering a great offload to a runaway Scott Dean. Dean carried the ball 30m up field before offloading to blind side flanker Dan Ireland, who linked with Kiwi Joe to race in for a long range try.

Calum McConnell grabbed the next try from a great set piece play. Usaia Tawakeuau proves the he is not just a ball runner when he looped and sent Barry Bourne into space. Backing up, he was able to receive and offload twice before McConnell chimed in and scored out wide. With the spectators rugged up and complaining about the bitter cold, McConnell screamed for water and in his thick Scottish brougue, questioned the runner if it was always this hot in Mackay.

The next try had the Kuttabul supporters on their feet when the Camelboks forced a turnover which was quickly scooped up by Kern. Racing down field it seemed a formatilty that Louis would extend his try scoring tally, but he used the support of Kiwi Joe who in turn offloaded to the crowd favourite Oscar Manu. The Fijians are blessed with silky skills and an abundance of speed no matter what shape or size and Manu is no exception. The big man scooped up the low pass and raced 30m to score untouched.

Hugo Ross was able score his second before the Raiders hit back and were rewarded with a try out wide after stringing together multiple phases. They went back to back soon after when the Whitsunday flyhalf took the odds to an intercept and scored under the posts.

Joseph Hughes made another clean break and went back to his chip and chase. Barry was able to regather before giving the last pass to Mike Entwistle. Capping off a good 40 minutes, Mike crashed over next to the posts to finish the scoring at 67-14
